A fatal train crash in the Mexican state of Oaxaca has caused the fatalities of at least 13 people, an incident likely to revive opposition criticisms regarding the rapidity and handling of the country's flagship infrastructure initiatives.
The crash occurred on the Interoceanic Corridor train, a route constructed to join the Atlantic Ocean and Pacific across the thinnest stretch of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. This endeavor was designed to provide an different freight railway path to the Panama Canal, aimed at driving commercial progress in the area.
“We will meticulously determine the cause of this incident,” declared the country's president.
The official announced that, of the around 250 people on board, another 98 were hurt, with five of those in grave condition. The leader noted plans to travel to Oaxaca to meet those affected.

The Interoceanic Train was a central development scheme of the previous administration, whose term finished the year before. This venture was closely associated with his government's strategic vision for the southeastern region.
