A Pig's Tale: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.
It might not have been at the equivalent scale as pardoning holiday birds, but the county's top official experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the commencement of a second term in office.
“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a long and happy life away from worry.”
The event, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a local firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “six-seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The trend became so widespread that a major dictionary recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.
“It embodies the essence of Miami: happy, diverse, and based in heritage that unite the community. Annually, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
