The British tennis star earned the most important success of his career by rebounding from a early deficit to defeat world No 1 Carlos Alcaraz 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the early stage of the Paris Masters.

Even though he had previously defeated Alcaraz on two prior meetings, this triumph signifies Norrie's first ever success over a current world top-ranked player.

"Massive. So big for me," stated Norrie, who becomes the newest English competitor in the record books to beat a world No 1. "Coming back from health issues last year, I lost in the opening stage of qualifiers here. I just sought to appreciate my game in the closing months of the year. To achieve a triumph like this, it's the greatest success of my career, my maiden triumph over the world No 1 and probably the strongest athlete in the sport right now."

The British player, ranked 31st in the world, also halted Alcaraz's supreme sequence of nine consecutive finals and 17 straight premier event wins, which marked the finest stretch of performances in the Spaniard's young professional path.

Contest Overview

The top seed seemed to be moving confidently to a win early on as he eased past the initial stanza. However, the British contender steadily fought his way into the match by delivering with improved accuracy and engaging the Spaniard into extended, demanding exchanges. His unceasing shot tolerance and reliability steadily took its toll.

During large parts of the contest, the world number one delivered strong serves but he found it challenging to find his timing on his baseline shots. The young star seemed especially uncomfortable executing his signature shot, which has been the most effective stroke in the world for much of this season, committing 29 forehand unforced errors and a combined of 54 errors. Across the net, Norrie gave his opponent so few mistakes, sustaining his consistency, physicality and depth the entire contest while delivering effective serves and picking his spots to force himself forward and play aggressively.

The Spanish sensation, in spite of his incredible achievements, is has not yet solve how to produce his finest performance on indoor courts.
