Tim Southee

The bowler's most recent Test for New Zealand was against the English side in the final month of 2024.

England bowling consultant Southee is still working through what his involvement will be at the forthcoming Ashes contest in the host nation.

The ex- New Zealand seamer is only likely to be present for the first Test due to his involvement in the International League T20 tournament, which starts on 2 December in the United Arab Emirates.

The 36-year-old, 36, took up a position as England's pace bowling advisor in the warmer months after claiming 391 wickets in 107 Test matches for New Zealand.

Commenting as England's team for the opening of three T20 matches against New Zealand was named, Southee stated of his participation: "We are still evaluating the situation at the present time.

"We'll see the outcome over the coming days."

English bowling legend Broad had stated the Australian team as their "weakest squad since 2010", but the consultant was in little doubt over what to expect during the contest, which starts on 21 November.

"In my view there's ever a bad Aussie side," Southee remarked.

"The team's attention is squarely on what we're trying to do. In my opinion the caliber of [England's] team that's going out to Australia is brilliant.

"It should be an thrilling encounter, that series. Not only [are|do] English and Australian people eagerly anticipate it, I believe the entire cricketing community is."

However, prior to the English team head to Perth for the first Ashes match, they face New Zealand in Christchurch on this Saturday.
