Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and believes the player will recover well after being shot in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn shared that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “positive” during their latest talk.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and his kid, they are doing well and he will walk away from this just fine.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where he is reported as serious yet stable.

“Still unsure,” he added. “Yet I must mention, from our conversation, his attitude was encouraging. Once more, that puts my mind at ease, because of his outlook and his words reflect that optimism.”

NYPD shared security footage earlier this week of an individual wanted in the shooting of Boyd. The reason behind the incident remains under investigation and officials stated it’s not clear if Boyd was the intended victim. No other injuries according to reports.

The shooting happened in the early morning on Sunday morning in the area between Madison Square Garden and the iconic square. Boyd, 29, was transported to a medical center after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, police said. The shooter fled the scene.

Glenn said Boyd has occupied his thinking “a ton” since he heard about the shooting. Glenn added that Boyd and his spouse recently welcomed a child.

“The first thing I thought about, he just had a kid,” Glenn said. “I thought of his spouse, considering his child and I hope he recovers fully. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“A certain process is underway, I’ll keep private, but I’m happy at the fact that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, his first with the Jets, after being placed on injured reserve on August 18 with an injury to his shoulder that needed an operation.

Boyd came to New York as a free agent in March and was expected to be a key part of the team’s updated special teams under Glenn and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. However, he got hurt during preseason drills on 2 August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd continued to be present during the entire campaign while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn stated. “I mean, he comes to the games all the time. He is completely involved. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, began his career with Minnesota after being a seventh-round pick by the Vikings out of UT in 2019. He joined Arizona in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad subsequently. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal for $1.6 million with New York in the spring.
