LA Battles Record-Breaking High Temperatures Just One Week After Severe Winter Storm.
After enduring heavy downpours that led to inundation across sections of the city, the City of Angels is now grappling with unusually hot temperatures for this time of year.
Record-Shattering Temperatures
On Friday midday, the temperature soared to 91°F (33°C) in central LA, as reported by meteorologists. This easily surpasses the old record for February 27th, which was 88°F (31°C) and was set in 2025.
"Exceptionally warm weather" were labeled on official charts for the region.
Public Health Alerts
Authorities issued a warning that Friday's heat posed an "increased danger for heat illness" for vulnerable populations. Their guidance included:
- Staying hydrated.
- Avoiding outdoor activities during the peak heat of the day.
- Not leaving kids or animals unattended in a parked vehicle.
A Dramatic Weather Swing
This sharp rise in heat follows closely after a massive storm system that struck the area last week. That event unleashed high winds, thunderstorms, and significant snowfall to the mountains, triggering evacuation orders for countless residents.
Sadly, the conditions also resulted in a massive avalanche in the Lake Tahoe area, which left nine people dead from.
Forecast Ahead
Forecasters predict some relief is expected. Readings were expected to drop to around 61°F (16°C) in downtown LA by Friday night.
Additional areas that hit the 90-degree mark featured Long Beach, Burbank, and Woodland Hills. Additionally, Oxnard, Westwood, Camarillo, and Santa Maria were expected to reach the high 80s.
For the weekend, downtown LA can expect readings in the 80s, with a further cooldown on tap for the week ahead.
