Nationality Breakdown of Vanished Minors

In both cases, minors from Albania were the biggest contingent to vanish, making up a full half the overall number from the temporary accommodations, 68, and in excess of one-fourth from the reception centres, 65.

The subsequent biggest ethnic groups to have vanished from the two settings are Afghan nationals followed by Iranian nationals.

These youths should be playing football in the park and studying for their GCSEs, not being exploited by smuggling networks in conditions we know involve being tied up, harmed and exploited, and penalized by being denied nourishment."

Policy Shifts and Continuing Issues

In December 2023, subsequent to a extended high court case involving unaccompanied minor refugees missing from all temporary accommodations, the procedure of routinely accommodating children in hotels was ruled unlawful.
