Slot Insists He Is Safe and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's understandable for concerns to be asked about his future after another heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in twelve games, representing the club's worst streak since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I've received a lot of backing from management,” Slot commented.
“It would be nice to turn it around and get a victory of course but if you are in a managerial role and struggling then it's typical that people question you.”
He noted, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Conversations with The Board
Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the team officials, Slot said:
“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me constantly of the day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard discussions I feel the trust. But I've not talked to them since this game yet so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Issues and Squad Response
Slot expressed regret over familiar weaknesses from his team in their European loss, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones said.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't have to wait to consider it. I’m past feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a period such as this with results this poor.”
He stated, “However we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And as long as it is removed, we’re always going to battle.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, prove once more the values of this club and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
