The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Reveals He Knows How Pluribus Will Conclude... For Now.

The creative mastermind never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would turn into a massive hit. “God bless the fans,” he states. “It was unexpected the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

As the debut season of the acclaimed series reaching its finale—and Season 2 already in development—the creative team opened up about the fan response and whether it will impact the storyline of Pluribus.

On the Tremendous Audience Reaction

One could easily to get sidetracked by the rampant praise and audience predictions about Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is making a conscious effort to steer clear of all that.

“It feels like an endless supply of something incredibly sweet and being laughing uncontrollably,” he explains. “It's amazing, but I learn of it through word of mouth, and that's intentional. Not once have I looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever intend to. Not because I don't care. It's a bottomless pit I know I would fall into and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”

In spite of trying to stay away, there’s it's impossible to ignore the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The most practical strategy is to take it in stride and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We make no attempt to adjust our writing,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not influenced by audience chatter.”

“We prefer to keep our focus on the work,” he chimes in.

A Pressing Query: Does Vince Gilligan Know the Conclusion of Pluribus?

Given that Gilligan and his team aren't taking cues by audience theories, does it imply they already know how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? Essentially yes… sort of.

“There are some interesting ideas about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan reveals. “but we are always ready to throw out a solid concept for a superior concept. This approach has served us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we conceive of something superior and I imagine we will be doing that.”

On the other hand, if all else fails, director and writer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to serve as a last resort.

“I keep pitching that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and that's where they've been all along,” Smith jokes, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Alternatively, why mess with the iconic TV endings?

“I want Carol to open her eyes next to Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV+.
