The Latest Relaxed Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a fresh game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but features several key changes:
- Every squad includes only eight real players, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities done by real players grant full XP, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
- Just a pair of maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Elements like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.
So essentially, the playlist lives up to its name: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, as it provides additional choices for players seeking alternative ways to have fun with the game. But, if video games has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, many BF6 fans are mad.
Community Reactions: From Fury to Praise
"People want real players. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," states a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," says a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," and another lists everything they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."
However, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and can't play this title all the time. Let them find a middle ground," states a different comment. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Concerns and Community Input
Despite the support, there are valid points to complain about the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it will make queue times even longer for different playlists because of the sheer number of playlists in the game already. Similarly, some areas often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Lastly, a major grievances is that a previous feature was meant to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to remove XP farming from the system. So this new playlist seems like the player base compromising halfway, as per forum feedback. Another describes this addition as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?
Should the development team has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and responding to player input. Assignments being too difficult got fixed very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
