The Red Devils Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
